The Psalm Series is almost here!
I’m so honored and excited to be part of this amazing series. It’s the brainchild of Brennan McPherson, author of Cain and Flood from his “The Fall of Man“ series.
Each of us was to choose a psalm—any of the 150—and write a story inspired by that psalm.
The first book, by Brennan, releases next Monday and is called The Hunter and the Valley of Death: A Parable of Surrender. The psalm he chose was the 23rd.
In his own words, Brennan “writes dark biblical fiction with a fantasy twist that puts flesh on some of the most well-recognized characters of all time.” His work is not straight biblical fiction, like mine. Brennan uses fantasy to repackage the heart of the Scriptures into a story full of beauty, meaning, emotions, and thoughts we can easily relate to. No cultural explanations necessary! Normally I’m not a fan of fantasy, but I loved this book!
Hunter is the story of an orphan who is taken in and adopted by the King. The King has many children, all of whom were alone and destitute.
I wanted to strangle him, chastise him for not trusting the King who obviously knew so much more than he did. Then I realized how often I do the same thing.
As he grows up, the Hunter falls in love with the King’s daughter. When she falls ill and the King doesn’t heal her, the Hunter is furious. He sets out to save her himself, by chasing down Death and killing him. Just how far will the Hunter go to save his Love? Is he prepared to abandon the King? And to whom will he go for help?
It’s painful to watch the Hunter make bad decision after bad decision. Maybe I don’t chase down Death, but still . . .
Each of the books is currently on sale for 99¢. Once a book is released, the price for that book will go up, so get yours now.
