Sometimes when I do a guest blog to promote my books, I’m asked to name 5 things people might not know about me. Most of them I’ve already talked about here, but I tried to come up with five more:
I played ice hockey. For a couple years in high school, I joined a girls’ ice hockey team. This was in San Diego, and the only teams we could play were in south LA. That meant the only teams we could scrimmage against would be there as well—not very practical. So what we ended up doing was playing against sailors. At the time there were quite a few Navy bases in San Diego, and of a lot of sailors came from northern states, many of whom loved to play hockey. So all of us—girls and sailors alike—put in $5 apiece to buy ice time so we could play.
I hate making phone calls. Except for a few friends and family members, I absolutely hate talking on the phone. For business purposes, I would much rather handle it by email or website. If a company doesn’t have a website or email address, more often than not I’ll just move on. It has nothing to do with my being tech-savvy; I’m just terribly introverted.

I used to be fairly fluent in Spanish. Living two miles from the Mexican border exposed me to a lot of Spanish. In junior high I was part of an experiment known as the bilingual program. All my classes were taught one day in Spanish, the next in English. The program was phased out in a few years because there weren’t enough English–to–Spanish students, and they went back to just ESOL. But I continued my Spanish studies all the way through high school and minored in Spanish in college. Alas, I did not keep up and have forgotten most of it.
I don’t have a favorite color. I just don’t. I don’t know why. I go through phases where I like a color for a while. But I don’t really have a favorite.
My favorite ice cream is vanilla with chocolate sauce and walnuts, a little melted and all stirred together. Vanilla with chocolate sauce tastes better than chocolate ice cream.
So what’s something most people don’t know about you? Have you kept it a secret on purpose, or it is just something too far back in time?
