In light of the other issues orphans face, it should not be surprising that many resort to suicide. With no help in sight and no solutions in mind, some can simply find no reason to keep going.
One study found that the suicide rate of adoptees is four times greater than the suicide rate of non-adoptees. A Russian study reported that of the 15,000 orphans aging out of state-run institutions every year, 10% committed suicide.
This risk is not limited to orphans on the street, either. Even adopted children with the most loving and ideal of homes can have a deep-seated feeling of being lost, coupled with a fear of rejection.
November is over, but their needs continue. Keep them in prayer.
